What it costs to run an ex-race bike Most of the ex-race bikes for sale here won't cost much more to run on the track than your road bike. You will need to change the oil and filter more regularly ( maybe once every three track days depending on how many sessions you do) as it will be thrashed all the time, more often if you're going to race the bike, too. It's important to check the bike over thoroughly before each track day to make sure all nuts and bolts are tight. You also need to check for brake pad and tyre wear . Gut if you choose a bike in a high state of tune, like any of the Ducati's of an ex-British Superbike, they take much more care, money and technical knowledge. Many tuned Ducati's have strict service lives. Crankcases, for example, need to be changed regularly or they will fail. Most race bikes are freshly rebuilt and come with a comprehensive spares kit - some even have complete spare engines.
